When it comes to moving, any tool that is capable of making the transition or storage process easier is a must! Even though you are probably not using a forklift during your transition, pallets or “skids” are one of many tools that can make storing your belongings in a storage unit easier and your belongings safer.
How Pallets Can Help
When it comes to storing your belongings in a storage unit, you want to make sure that your expensive furniture, electronics, and other investments are protected when you are not using them. Even though your belongings are behind a locked door, placing a few pallets on the floor of your storage unit can add an additional layer of protection. By placing expensive items on a stable pallet, a few inches are created between your belongings and the floor. Those extra inches can be a saving grace if torrential rain or melting snow tries to leak into your outdoor unit. By keeping your belongings off the floor, you can be sure that you are taking the right precautions to avoid finding your expensive TV in a puddle of water on your next visit.
If you’re not storing expensive electronics in your storage unit, a pallet can still come in handy. By turning the pallet on its side, it makes a perfect place to store shovels, rakes, tools, or sports equipment that would otherwise be laying on the floor of the unit where it could be damaged or hurt someone walking into the unit. The great thing about organizing your tools inside of a wooden pallet is that you can not only do it in a storage unit, but you can also incorporate the idea in your garage or shed.

Finding the Perfect Pallet
Pallets are used frequently at grocery stores, furniture stores, and warehouses that receive large orders on a weekly basis. Most of the time, these businesses recycle the pallets since they receive so many and are happy to give them to interested parties for free in order to make more room in their loading areas. You can also find pallets for a low cost or even for free on classified ad websites such as Craigslist.
